CHAPTER TWENTY

Nikolay stepped out of the helicopter and walked to the waiting SUV.

“Hey boss.” Alexi said.

His phone rang.

“Hello, Mr. Waltmore. I have been expecting your call.”

Cash Waltmore was one of the directors of BioZen. Xander Tomassi’s boss. He’d left moments before Xander’s kidnapping by the vampires.

What he did and didn’t know, Nikolay wasn’t sure. But then again, he also didn’t care. He’d known sooner or later someone would call him.

“Where are Xander and Elizabeth?” Cash demanded.

A private smile hit Nikolay’s lips. He knew where Elizabeth was. Soaking in a bubble bath. He’d fucked her to within an inch of her life this morning.

His smile faded quickly.

“I think you forget who you are talking to.” Nikolay sneered. “Or do you speak to the head of the world’s mafia like this every day?”

He let that sink in for a moment, then added, “I did not think so, or you would be a dead man.”

“Wait just a minute.” Cash spluttered. “I’m simply looking for two of my employees who suddenly disappeared weeks ago.”

Alexi shut the door as he climbed into the back seat of the vehicle.

“I last saw them when they were dining with you.”

“Ah. So not only are you demanding information from me, but you’re also accusing me of kidnapping. Or is it murder?” He spoke in a dark tone. “Choose your words carefully, Mr. Waltmore.”

Alexi shot him a smirk in the rear mirror as the vehicle sped away from the airport.

When only silence greeted him, Nikolay stretched out his legs and undid his jacket.

He decided to throw the man a bone.

“Elizabeth is fine. She is with me. You do not need to concern yourself with her wellbeing.” The Portland landscape opened up. There was a lot more snow on the ground here than in New York.

It didn’t bother him.

Moscow was a cold city for much of the year.

“Consider her resignation submitted,” Nikolay said, losing interest in the conversation. “She will be staying with me.”

“Of her own choice?” Cash asked, carefully.

Smart man.

“Let’s say yes,” he replied, lifting the bottle of water that had been placed for him in the SUV to his lips.

Cash sighed.

“And Xander?”

“The vampires have him. Or he is dead. I do not know.” Nikolay did not give him any more information. He wasn’t running a fucking charity.

“Jesus,” Cash said, and cursed some more. “They will have killed him.”

Nikolay grinned to himself. “Yes. I would have.”

“Do you have any idea where he is? The man has a wife,” Cash asked, his voice tense.

Nikolay turned on the seat, lifting his leg so his thigh rested on the leather. “Information in my world comes at a price. Should I have the information you seek, I would want something in return.”

More cursing.

“What do you want?” the man ground out.

“I am not sure. A debt to be repaid when I call it in.” He took another sip of his water. Fucking that hard really dehydrated a man.

“Tell me how much,” Cash demanded.

The man was skating on thin ice and clearly had no idea just how thin.
